Being True to Your Goals

Hi there,

How many of you out there feel like you're making progress and finally getting ahead in your financial journey, when out of the blue an unexpected catastrophe occurs and you're left back at square one? These things always seem to come along at once. The car breaks down or you need root canal.

Many people at this point often get very discouraged and decide it's all too hard to save money and change their lot in life. They decide that they will never get ahead because of their unfortunate circumstances. They are not being true to their goals, or rather, they have not defined their goals clearly. There goals are just dreams, a hazy mirage in the distance.
The hard truth is, that until you really define your goals, they really are just dreams. You must create a picture in your mind so vivid that you can almost touch it.

When you know what you really want, it is a much easier to deal with unexpected situations. Also, when you have clearly defined goals and a plan of action, unexpected occurrences magically disappear. Now I'm not saying that you can avoid every unexpected catastrophe in your life. However, through careful planning and looking at all the factors in your life and possible things that could go wrong, you can make provision for almost any unfortunate situation.
This might be as simple as setting up a 'cash buffer' emergency account. I really believe that this step alone can change any one's life completely. Just add what you can every week or even put in a lump some and keep a minimum float. Note well though. I called it an EMERGENCY account. Be brutally honest with yourself when classing something as an emergency. It is not the 'my sister is in town from interstate for just one night and we have to go out for a big night on the town because we never see each other and it's the only way to prove I really care and it doesn't matter if we get a taxi home' fund. This account is there to prevent you from getting to the stage of 'back to square one' and the associated defeatist mentality.

So, review your situation, define your goals and be true to them
